BMW Electrical 101: How to Reprogram Your Car’s Computer

BMWs are awesome cars with sophisticated electrical systems. The diagnostics and displays are computer powered. Every time you have an oil change or other maintenance issue, your mechanic resets the computer to set the calculator back at zero. But if you change the oil yourself, you might want to also reset the computer yourself so you have a more accurate reading of when you are due for an oil change next time. Turn the ignition key to the accessory position without actually starting the car. Press the Trip button in the instrument panel until the light comes on. Press the button a second time until Reset appears. Press the button a third time. The computer is now reset. Need help? Call our Cincinnati repair shop. We’d be happy to answer any questions.
