A Car Mechanic Explains: Signs of a Bad Fuel Pump
As the name implies, the fuel pump pumps fuel from the gas tank to the engine. If it breaks, your engine pretty much runs out of gas, even on a full tank. Fortunately there are warning signs it’s going out — which means it’s time to bring it in to your trusted auto mechanic. If you notice the engine sputtering at high speeds, you likely have a bad fuel pump. Pay attention to the temperature gauge. If it gets hot and the car stalls, your fuel pumps starting to go loco. Watch the fuel gauge as you rev the engine. If it seems a little off, you might want to have your car inspected at your local auto garage. Another sign is a loss of power as you climb a hill. This could be a bad spark plug, but it also might be a sign of a dying fuel pump.
