Razor Thin: BMW Tops Mercedes by Just 34 Cars in US Sales

Posted 4/6/20

Look, the mechanics at our Cincinnati auto garage love a competition — especially when it’s close. And when it comes to US sales last October, the BMW vs. Mercedes competition didn’t disappoint. BMW beat Mercedes barely by the nose — a difference of only 34 cars. That’s razor thin.

Bloomberg reports:

“BMW posted a 6% gain in September, delivering to 27,467 cars and sport utility vehicles. The 3 Series sedan was up 19% and the X5 SUV more than doubled sales from a year ago.

“Mercedes deliveries rose 4.8% to 27,433, paced by deliveries of its GLC and GLE SUVs, which jumped 13% and 28%, respectively.”

The company congratulated itself and its dealer network.

“With September’s results, we have now achieved positive sales growth in 24 of the past 25 months,” Bernhard Kuhnt, president and CEO, BMW of North America, said in a press release. “We thank our customers for their continued confidence in our new products and look ahead to year-end, with a focus on maintaining the momentum that our dealer network has built with us over this time.”

Volkswagen, Audi Sales Dip

Volkswagen and Audi did not do quite as well. Volkswagen AG’s Audi division slumped in September, with a 17% slide — deliveries of its best-selling SUV, the Q5, fell 41%.

The Importance of Regular Tuneups at Your Auto Repair Shop

So many people only bring their car into the auto repair garage when there’s something wrong with it. That’s a mistake. Tuneups are essential to a car’s performance maintenance schedule, like getting the brakes replaced, the radiator flushed, or the wheels balanced. We can detect minor problems before they become serious issues. This keeps costs low and keeps your car on the road. You keep your car in good condition and avoid breakdowns. It also ensures your car is safer — the brakes work, the wheels are balanced, and the engine purrs like a kitten. Tuneups optimize the lifespan of your vehicle — your car will last longer because every repair has been taken care of before it becomes a problem.
