Look, the mechanics at our Cincinnati auto garage love a competition — especially when it’s close. And when it comes to US sales last October, the BMW vs. Mercedes competition didn’t disappoint. BMW beat Mercedes barely by the nose — a difference of only 34 cars. That’s razor thin.
“BMW posted a 6% gain in September, delivering to 27,467 cars and sport utility vehicles. The 3 Series sedan was up 19% and the X5 SUV more than doubled sales from a year ago.
“Mercedes deliveries rose 4.8% to 27,433, paced by deliveries of its GLC and GLE SUVs, which jumped 13% and 28%, respectively.”
The company congratulated itself and its dealer network.
“With September’s results, we have now achieved positive sales growth in 24 of the past 25 months,” Bernhard Kuhnt, president and CEO, BMW of North America, said in a press release. “We thank our customers for their continued confidence in our new products and look ahead to year-end, with a focus on maintaining the momentum that our dealer network has built with us over this time.”
Volkswagen, Audi Sales Dip
Volkswagen and Audi did not do quite as well. Volkswagen AG’s Audi division slumped in September, with a 17% slide — deliveries of its best-selling SUV, the Q5, fell 41%.
