Looking for better insight into your car’s performance? Automatic, available for iPhone and Android, provides a link from your car to your smartphone to make sense of car diagnostics. It provides you feedback on your driving, everything from harsh braking to speeding, and can help you improve gas mileage. It even sends a crash alert service that will notify emergency services and loved ones in the event of a crash.
The app includes a trip log that lets you keep track of every trip you’ve made, tag places on the trip for reference later on, and gain insights such as distance, fuel economy, and where you’ve stopped along the way. But as iMore points out, the maps are too small to be easily read, however.
One cool feature of the app is the ability to check engine codes, which can save you an emergency trip to the mechanic.
The Automatic app is very easy to set up. Simply download it from the app store, and the app will walk you through connecting it to your vehicle’s computer. The app is free, but requires a $99 Link unit that works on most US vehicles made after 1996.
