Are you an Audi, VW or Porsche fan? Want to drive an electric car and say sayonara to the gas pump? Well, we’ve got good news for you. Our electrical specialists are certainly thrilled. The first details on the PPE electric car platform for Porsches and Audis have been announced.
Motor Authority reports that both Porsche and Audi have developed separate platforms for their first volume of electric vehicles.
“Audi’s platform is the C-BEV which is designed for high-riding vehicles and will appear initially in the e-tron SUV on sale in 2018.
“Meanwhile, over at Porsche, engineers have developed the J1 platform for a sedan based on 2015’s Mission E concept. It was recently spied testing and is expected on sale in 2019.”
One Platform for 3 Brands
The next electric car platform will be a collaboration between the two brands. Code-named the Premium Platform Electric, or PPE for short, the new platform, will include three “model families,” two of which will be for Audi.
“(Audi R&D boss Peter) Mertens hinted that about 60 percent of the models spawned from the platform would be from Audi and the remainder from Porsche,” Motor Authority reported. “He also hinted that the platform could be used for vehicles in core segments such as those occupied by the Audi A4 and A6.”
So get ready to plug in. Save the earth, not to mention your bank account. Filling up the gas tank is about to go the way of the landline.
