Helping to make up for its emissions scandal, Volkswagen has made its electric version of its Golf car much more practical and usable, increasing its range 50 percent when compared to last year’s model.
The e-Golf, Volkswagen’s electric version of its popular compact car now has an EPA rating of 125 miles on a single charge. That means our VW technicians can finally have the confidence to drive from Cincinnati to visit Grandma in Columbus and not have to worry about the juice until they plug it in next to Grandma’s Tesla.
The new Golf is still a far cry from the Chevy Bolt’s industry-leading EV range, but it’s enough to for most commutes, an afternoon of chores, and the practical demands of day to day driving.
Better Charge = Bigger Market
It essentially means the car has vastly improved its market potential.
“Range anxiety is real, and a boost of around 40 miles should actually open up a whole new group of potential customers, alongside other factors that could help drive more EV sales, like increasing familiarity and comfort with the technology among average car buyers,” Darrell Etherington observes for TechCrunch.
