It’s a good thing we are electrical specialists. That could be a critical qualification for Land Rover/Jaguar repair soon. The company recently announced it was developing a prototype hydrogen fuel cell-electric SUV, thanks to a government program funded by the United Kingdom.
It’s all part of a 73.5 million British pound (approximately $90.2 million) stimulus program for the automotive industry focused on green technology.
A New Day for Land Rover
The hydrogen project is called ZEUS — “zero and low-emissions vehicles in urban society.”
There aren’t a lot of details out yet about the new all electric SUV, but it will have “Jaguar Land Rover attributes,” such as robust off-road capability.
The program will also fund a power electronics system for future battery-electric vehicles. BMW and Ford development projects will be funded by the program as well.
The move is a forward for Land Rover, who previously focused more on plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles when it comes to alternative powertrains. It’s impressive the European car manufacturer is embracing electric battery technology when other companies are moving away from it.
That’s good news for the earth — and good news people like us that repair and drive Land Rovers and Jaguars. More efficient electric power means cleaner air and water, and it’s good for climate change!
