The Future of Jaguar: What’s Down the Road

Posted 8/3/20

As Jaguar technicians, we love Jaguars. Repairing them is more than just a job — it’s our passion. So we were super excited to read Auto Express’ write up of Jaguar design director Julian Thomson, who discussed the new Jaguar XJ, plus sports cars and small Jags.

New Days Ahead

First, there are exciting roads ahead. Change is in the air.

“Now we start a new chapter – and it has been 20 years – and it is time for a change,” Thomson told Auto Express. “It’s really a chance to put some magic back into the brand and really extend its true potential. We’re breaking a few of the rules which were set down by my predecessor.”

Part of those changes will naturally be fueled by the COVID-19 crisis and the new world that follows.

“I think people will be more concerned about personal spaces and their health in their cars. You know, those little capsules will be more of an escapist unit, so I think material is going to be very, very important,” Thomson said.

Good Times

But luxury will continue to be a hallmark of Jaguar. The forthcoming XJ won’t disappoint, Thomson assured Jaguar fans.

“It’s going to be a very, very luxurious, very, very calm, tranquil piece of transportation,” he says. “But it’s not overtly flashy, it’s not overtly expensive. “It’s not about loads and loads of bling and ridiculous price points and the rest of it. We appeal to a customer, we hope, who is more of an intellect, knows a little bit more about design and the materials we put into our cars.

“It’s a car which you make an emotional connection with. We don’t want all our people who get our cars to just sit in the back of them and just be driven around in them. They can be used like that, but at the end of the day, we know that these cars are there to be experienced and driven and enjoyed; enjoyable to sit in, relaxing to sit in, and beautiful to look at.”

The Efficient Power of Jaguar’s Electric SUVs

Electric SUVs are also in Jaguar’s future. But Thomson said the electric SUVs won’t compromise performance while delivering on common sense.

“They still are continuing to rocket, and they do make a lot of sense,” Thomson said. “They give you a great feeling of security, they’re very, very practical, so I can see why people like them. And our SUVs are our most successful products and they’re very, very good. So I guess what people want.”

Sounds good to us. Jaguar’s a beautifully performing car that we love to repair. It’s good to know the SUV will be a greener alternative that continues to cut the mustard.

Can You Trust Your Auto Repair Shop? A Test

Want to know if you can trust the auto repair shop in Cincinnati you’ve been taking your car to all these years? Test them out. Bring your car into the shop and complain about a problem that doesn’t actually exist. See if they fix it and then charge you a bunch of money. Some shops will bill you for the work and not even do the repair if your car doesn’t need it. Others will repair it — swap out a muffler, for example, when the repair wasn’t really needed. But a trustworthy shop will tell you the repair isn’t needed in the first place — there’s really nothing wrong with your car. They are after your loyalty, not nickle and diming you for every repair. A mechanic you can trust is as good as gold.
