BMW Maintenance: The 2 Inspection Levels for a BMW

Posted 8/10/14

Own a BMW? When’s the last time you had it inspected? What about your regular BMW scheduled maintenance? If you can’t remember, you’re long overdue. Read this article, and then call your BMW mechanic for a routine maintenance inspection and some BMW diagnostics. A regular tune up can do wonders to the performance of your vehicle. More importantly, it can help you spot any potential car repair issues before they become critical and leave you stranded on the side of the road.

BMW has two levels of inspection. BMW Inspection I is the simpler of the two, and in general looks at basic safety features as well as overall functionality.

BMW Diagnostics Level One: Maintenance Inspection Details

The level one BMW inspection looks over the components of the car that receive the most wear and tear. For example, your BMW technician will take a look under the hood, checking your car’s fluids, in the process changing your car’s oil and filter. They will do a general inspection of the car,  underneath, under the hood and around the outside. The focus of these inspections are on the exhaust system, BMW brakes and rotors, and anything that looks like it is leaking, missing, or out of place.  The mechanic will take a look at the BMW electrical system, both hooking it up to the computer and physically inspecting things like the lights, door locks and windows to ensure that they are in full working order.

Inspection I gets your BMW technician to inspect your car from top to bottom to make sure its in great working order. When your BMW mechanic gets to look at all of the details of your car, they will also be composing a list of BMW diagnostics. They will be able to spot anything that might be a problem waiting to happen so that you will only be paying for BMW scheduled maintenance and not excessive BMW repair.

BMW Diagnostics Level Two: Extra Care for The Details

BMW Inspection II includes all of the services under BMW Inspection I, plus services like a differential oil change, inspection of the parking brake lining, and replacement of all fuel filters, air filters, and spark plugs. Your BMW mechanic will also conduct a general rust inspection, which is important because of the salty roads during Cincinnati winters.  If your car is nearing the 100,000 mile mark, it’s a great idea to get this extra BMW diagnostics inspection taken care of.
