Never Be Afraid to Get a Second Opinion on Auto Repair
Does your car mechanic act like a bully? Oh, sure, they may pretend to be your best friend, but they practically “threaten” you under the guise of safety not to take the car to anyone else or ask for a second opinion. (You’d be surprised how many Cincinnati shops do this routinely.) Sure, it’s natural they want your business, but they should earn it fair and square like everyone else. It’s rare for a car to be truly too dangerous to drive down the street for a second opinion, and even if it is, it may well be worth the tow, especially if the repair is that serious. (To compete with AAA, the automobile service club, many insurance companies now offer free towing as part of their policy. Call your agent to see if you’re covered.) If the mechanic’s diagnosis and price is worth its weight in gold, it will stand up to a second opinion. After all, if you were having heart surgery, you’d want another doctor to weigh in, right?
