The Jaguar I-Pace: An Impressive Addition to the Electric Car Market

Posted 7/30/18

One of the biggest new auto industry trends our auto repair shop is excited about these days is the proliferation of electric vehicles. It seems like every car manufacturer is coming out with an electric option these days. And Jaguar is no different. The company just announced it was testing 200 of its I-Pace electric cars, logging in 1.5 million miles and counting.

The I-Pace features a “a zero to 80-percent charge” with a 50-kilowatt charger during a “short break,” Ian Hoban, Jaguar Vehicle Line Director, told Green Card Reports.

How long is a short break? Our Jaguar mechanics hope it’s about one IPA, considering all the breweries these days that are outfitting their cars with charging stations.

Quite a Charge

Either way, the car did complete a 200-mile trip from Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard to Central California’s Morro Bay, on a single charge.

Don’t underestimate the significance of Jaguar producing such a formidable contender to Tesla. As Motor Trend’s Angus MacKenzie puts it:

“It’s difficult to overstate the significance of the I-Pace. This truly is a moonshot Jaguar, the most profoundly radical car in the company’s history. More than that, it puts Jaguar—an automaker that opened the 21st century building cars soaked in 1960s nostalgia—right at the bleeding edge of mainstream automotive industry product development trends.”

Slick and well powered, the I-Pace is certainly proof that car electrical specialists will enjoy plenty of job security for the foreseeable future.

Check Engine Light On? Time for Some Car Troubleshooting.

Have a check engine light come on? In most cases, this isn’t a big deal, but it’s also something you shouldn’t ignore. It means your car’s computer has indicated a fault in its corresponding code. It could mean you have a slightly faulty exhaust system or it could even be a sign of engine failure. That is why it is important to run a diagnostic check, a digital form of troubleshooting your car using a code scanner that can read the nature of the problem. You can purchase a scanner from an automotive supply store or download an app and equipment that hooks your phone to the diagnostic system of your car. You could also take the car into your mechanic for a checkup.
