Own a Jaguar iPace? You might want to bring it in to our technicians for a software update.
The new update will improve normal driving range by up to 20 kilometres — but there’s no change to the car’s official 470km range rating using the WLTP standard.
“These software enhancements will be provided free of charge and will deliver up to 8% range improvement,” Jaguar wrote in an email to Electrek. “Changes to the torque distribution of the permanent all-wheel-drive system will deliver greater efficiency when driving in ECO mode, while refinements to thermal management control will see the active radiator vanes close more often to enhance aerodynamics. The battery will also run to a lower state of charge than previously without affecting drive ability, durability or performance.”
Lower Charge, Better Range, More Stopping Power
The updated battery software will allow the car to run on a lower charge “without affecting drivability, durability or performance”, while the all-wheel drive system has improved efficiency in Eco mode, although permanent AWD is still present.
The update also allows the car to use the active radiator vane system more frequently, and the regenerative brakes have been recalibrated to harvest more energy.
“In addition to the racing-derived enhancements, analysis of real-world data has enabled us to recalibrate the Regenerative Braking system to harvest energy more efficiently when the battery is in a high state of charge and recover more energy at lower speeds,” Jaguar wrote in an email. “Changes to the predictive range calculation algorithm will deliver a more accurate and consistent estimate of vehicle range, while being more reflective of an individual’s driving style.”
Additionally, the software update allows an improved over-the-air update system. This means more in car updates can be done without taking the car to a dealership or a certified Jaguar technician or electrical specialist.
