It’s Probably a Mercedes: 2021’s Top Ranked Luxury SUVs

Posted 6/6/22

When you work in import car repair, seeing the year’s newest models can feel like being a kid on Christmas. What has Santa somehow fit down the chimney? Luckily for us, the folks over at Car and Driver put together their list of the 13 best new luxury SUVs for 2022. Unsurprisingly to all of us who work on imported cars every day, a majority of the 13 are imported cars. And a majority of that majority come from Mercedes-Benz.

Lets take a look at some of the luxury SUVs that clawed their way to the top 13.

Luxury Range Rover For Your Off-Roading Needs

Range Rover has been a staple of Land Rover’s lineup since 1970, and by this point drivers know what to expect when they choose one. They are rugged off-roaders that are highly luxurious, and this new version expects to be no different. If you want your luxury taken to the next level (and then the next level after that), the SVAutobiography model includes a fridge, mohair floor mats and hot-stone massage chairs. Just be prepared to pay upwards of $90,000 for the privilege.

A Mercedes May Fill Your Need for Opulence

If you are looking for something a little more German, there are 5 Mercedes-Benz models for you to choose from that made the list. If you are looking for something that is more rough and ready, you have the AMG G63 or the G550 to choose from. Both of these have the more boxy styling of a classic off-roader—and will handle all of your off-roading needs with ease—but still have all of the interior style, luxury, and technology you would expect from a brand new Mercedes. With base prices of $132,800 and $157,500 respectively, expect the finest from top to bottom.

If you want a Merc, but prefer something whose exterior looks a little more modern, there are still options for you. There is the GLS-Class, with a turbocharged straight-six that is aided by a hybrid system (base price $78,250), the AMG GLS63, which is “is as much hot rod as it is hauler,” with a meaty 600+ horsepower (base price $133,150), and the Maybach GLS (base price $161,550), where the luxury factor is turned up with a V8, nappa leather, and optional champagne cooler, if you are into that sort of thing.

King of the Luxury Pack: A Posh BMW to Rule them All

Though there are many powerful and luxurious cars in this list, there always had to be a number one. And it’s not really a surprise that a BMW takes home the prize. The BMW X7 has been a star in BMW’s lineup since it was released in 2018, and 2021’s models are no different. With a lower base price that some of the other options on this list—$75,895—it is more affordable, but also comes standard with nearly everything you could want in a luxury SUV, including third row seating, an excellent stereo, all-wheel drive, and the usual infotainment system and driver’s assistance. More expensive models give the option for more horsepower from the base model’s 335 hp, but each level is full of the style, quality and luxury you can expect from BMW.

It can be tough to pick a new car when you have all of this bounty to choose from, but it is a great choice to have to make. Check out Car and Driver for more details and the whole list to see who made the cut.

How to Know It’s Time for a Porsche Cayenne Brake Job

A Porsche Cayenne is a car of beauty. It has the sleekness and speed of a smaller Porsche, but in a more family-package. You may not get the kids and a dog in the 911, but the Cayenne will fit everyone in with ease. And with all of your precious people in one car, it makes it that much more important to get prompt brake jobs for your Porsche Cayenne. If you feel or hear something weird when you hit the brakes, get the brakes checked on your Porsche Cayenne to keep you and your family safe.
