Looking for some advice before you replace your Porsche brakes? If you have a Porsche 944 from 1989 or thereabouts, the folks at Instructables have some simple, easy-to-follow advice to get you started. The writer doesn’t waste much time on words, but has some close-up photos that make each step easy to understand. They really make it a breeze. With some elbow grease and the right tools, this post can point you in the right direction to replace your brake pads and rotors in under an hour.
Some Important Details When Changing Porsche Brakes
1. Take care of your brake caliper: Let’s face it, between all of the oil, grease, and road dust, Porsche technicians have a pretty dirty job. So when our Instructables instructor suggests wiping off the caliper so your hands stay cleaner, it’s best to follow that advice.
2. Compare the old brake pads with the new: Unfortunately mistakes are a fact of life. So, before you get too far in your import brake job, compare the old brake pads with the new set. If they aren’t shaped exactly the same (though the new set should be thicker, of course), you are going to have a problem completing your repair. Check near the beginning before you tear the rest of the brake assembly apart.
3. Don’t forget to remove the screw: If you are having problems removing the rotor, check to make sure you actually took out the single screw that holds the place in place.
