BMW 6-Series Quietly Fades into History

Posted 8/14/17

Some BMWs become legends. Others not so much. The BMW 6-Series Coupe? Don’t expect that one to make the history books.

The two-door hardtop 6-Series Coupe quietly slipped from production last February, BMW confirmed to Road & Track.

Don’t worry. The 2018 6-Series Gran Coupe and convertible is still available and being made, and you can still get the two door hardtop off the lot, but it won’t be rolling off assembly lines any longer.

And it’s unclear if BMW plans to bring it back.

Lack of Market Demand

Our BMW technicians can certainly understand why. The car was a mix of worlds that simply didn’t belong.

Or, as the Drive puts it:

“In the presence of the more practical Gran Coupe and the open-air thrills of the Convertible, it’s not hard to see why modern 6-Series customers might see the Coupe as a weird ‘worst of both worlds’ offering. Structural rigidity? People who care about such things aren’t likely to be looking at large, grand tourers such as the 6-Series, anyways.”

So a moment of silence for the dead two door hardtop sedan. Now let’s all rev our engines for the 2018 6-Series Gran Coupe and convertible: beautiful cars that better serve their markets.

Does Your Cincinnati Car Mechanic Explain the Problem in Detail?

How open is your auto mechanic when it comes to explaining the problem? A good one will always explain what’s happening with your vehicle in detail, Cincinnati! And they’ll show you what’s happening, give you a tour of the engine, so to speak. If they don’t under a flimsy excuse such as it would take too much time, they are hiding something. Car repair doesn’t need to be such a mystery. A good shop will be up front, tell you why things need fixed and what they will cost. If the price varies by more than $100, they should call you first to get your approval. It’s your car and you deserve to know the reasons behind every repair. It’s the only way to make a truly educated decision.
