Car doesn’t start? eHow has a great little YouTube video that walks you through some car troubleshooting steps to try to figure out what is keeping you off of the road. A mechanic explains some essential things to look for to try and pinpoint the source of the problems.
Some Suggestions to Get to the Bottom of Your Car Troubles:
1. Check to see if the engine cranks: If the engine tries to crank, but just won’t start, that means that the battery and the starter should be in okay shape.
2. Verify that all of your sensors are plugged in: Modern cars have sensors for everything. If those sensors aren’t plugged in, your car might not start. Follow the electrical wires and make sure that the clips that are supposed to be plugged in are plugged in snugly.
3. Look at your hoses: A hose that is disconnected, loose, holey or pinched is not doing its job. If you see any hoses that don’t look right, this may be the culprit of your car troubleshooting woes.
4. Is your fuel pump working? When your turn your key on for a minute and then off again you should be able to hear your fuel pump. If its not humming, thats a problem. No fuel means your engine isn’t ever going to start.
