Mercedes is about to spice up its racing game.
The European car manufacturer recently signed a technical partnership with Ineos Sports’ cycling and sailing divisions. The agreement will have the two juggernauts collaborating in competitions on track, road, and sea.
Both teams engineers will work to develop innovations in areas such as “engineering, human science, simulation and data analysis,” Reuters reports.
That’s good news. As Mercedes mechanics, we understand the feat of engineering that hides under the hood of a Mercedes. To couple that performance with Ineos Sports makes for a formidable racing team, one that’s sure to bring riches, glory, and fame to both companies.
“Six-time Formula One constructors’ champions Mercedes will be working with the Team Ineos cycling outfit and Olympic yachtsman Ben Ainslie’s INEOS TEAM UK, who are preparing to challenge for sailing’s America’s Cup in 2021.
“Petrochemicals giant Ineos, owned by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, took over Team Sky’s successful Tour de France cycling outfit in May 2019.”
“Tapping into the unrivalled expertise and success of the Mercedes Formula One team to support our sporting ambitions across sailing and cycling is an exciting proposition for us,” Ratcliffe said in a statement. “As with cycling and sailing, Formula One is a sport that successfully blends human and machine performance, so we are in a strong position to learn from each other. Collaboration and innovation are a key part of success across our sports teams, which is strengthened by this partnership with Mercedes.”
Team Spirit = Team Success
“When Jim Ratcliffe approached us with the concept of bringing together the three organisations… we immediately saw the opportunity to grow and diversify our business – and to learn from some of the most successful teams in world sport,” added Mercedes team principal and CEO Toto Wolff. “We are very excited about this agreement’s potential in the months and years ahead.”
Who knows? Maybe they’ll bring the next Mercedes competitive roadster into our auto garage in Cincinnati. We’d love to take a look under the hood!
