Most people neglect their radiators. That’s pretty obvious when the first winter snow storm hits Cincinnati every year. You’d be surprised how many blown radiators come in. But the performance benefits of radiator flushes are clear and obvious. Your radiator will work better and last longer. Here are 5 benefits to regularly flushing your radiator every 30,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first.
Remove Rust Deposits
Flushing your radiator washes away rust, dirt and other deposits that build up in your radiator and would otherwise clog the system. This can cause your vehicle to overheat, damaging your radiator and even possibly blowing the engine.
Your Water Pump Will Last Longer
The new coolant that is added to your system after a radiator flush actually contains additives that lubricate your vehicle’s water pump. The whole process helps your water pump function better and last longer.
Protect Against Rust and Foam
The new antifreeze also contains additives that help protect against rust and foam buildup. This prevents foaming of the system so your radiator operates more efficiently.
Inspection of System
At our Cincinnati auto repair garage, we’ll perform a complete inspection every time we flush your radiator. We’ll do pressure tests to detect leaks in the system. This way you can detect problems before they happen, which can be essential when you drive in the incredibly cold winters of Cincinnati. We include this in the price. It’s on us!
Prevent Acidic Antifreeze
Old antifreeze is bad for your radiator. It becomes acidic if used too long, which can eat away at the components. It also starts to clump up in your system, causing further problems. The best way to make sure your fluid is fresh is to regularly flush your radiator. This way, you’ll be better able to prepare for whatever the hot summers or cold winters have to throw at you.
A Radiator Flush vs. a Radiator Drain: What’s the Difference?
Draining a radiator simply means removing the old fluid and adding new. With a radiator flush, the old radiator fluid is removed. Then 4 to 5 gallons of new antifreeze is pumped through your radiator to more optimally remove any debris and contaminants. Once that is done, then another batch of new radiator fluid is added. Flushing a radiator guarantees that all the dirt has been removed, while merely draining a radiator only removes 50% of it.
