Love diesel? Love Land Rover? Then you’re in luck. In a marked change for the industry, Land Rover is doubling down on diesel. The company recently rolled out several new diesel models in a move to promote diesel technology, a conscious effort it plans to continue for the foreseeable future.
That’s good news, because our Land Rover mechanics love diesel.
“The latest diesel technology is really such a step in emissions, performance, particulates; it’s better for the environment when compared to [an equivalent] petrol,” Ralf Speth, CEO of Land Rover, told Autocar. “Diesel has to -– needs to -– have a future.”
New Diesel = Cleaner Diesel
But he’s not talking about your grandfather’s diesel. Speth is quick to point out that recent advancements in diesel have led to cleaner diesel, which often gets overlooked following VW’s emissions scandal.
“This kind of manipulation software is not acceptable. Unfortunately, the whole automotive industry suffers, not just Volkswagen,” Speth told Autocar.
That’s a reality that anybody who has repaired Land Rovers clearly understands.
Not that the future is diesel. On the contrary, the future is electric. Diesel is simply a cleaner alternative until that reality is reached, Speth explained.
“The future is pure battery electric vehicles. No other technology will bring that freedom,” told Autocar.
