Volvo Recalls 5,500 Volvos for Airbag Repairs

Own a Volvo? It might be time to bring it in, and not just for your regularly scheduled Volvo maintenance. Volvo just announced it is recalling more than 5,500 Volvos in the US due to airbag problems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has concluded that some of those vehicles have been installed with malfunctioning manufactured bolts, which risks passengers to injury in the event of a crash.

Autoliv Poland supplied the bolts that were treated with chemicals that could cause them to break in as little as 48 hours. In the event of a crash, the bolts may detach, causing the airbags to move out of place and not provide the protection they are designed for.

Speedy Recall for Potentially Serious Problem

The problem was discovered earlier this month. The Car Connection, the vehicle research site, points out that Volvo must be taking this issue very seriously to order a recall so quickly.

The recall affects 2017 models of the Volvo XC90, S90, and V90 Cross Country. If you own one of these vehicles, take it to your local Volvo technician immediately for inspection or repair.

Spark plugs should be replaced every 15,000 miles. Air conditioning should be inspected every 5,000 miles.
