Brake jobs should be high on the list of car repair jobs that you should leave to your car mechanic. Making sure your European brakes work is the difference between life and death, after all. It is critical that the rotors be bedded very carefully when they are replaced. Improperly installed brakes can lead to a serious accident.
Squealing Brakes Following a Brake Job
If you notice some initial squealing after a new brake job, don’t panic. The reason for the noise is that all rotors after manufacturing have an a protective oil applied to the brake rotor face in order to prevent rust during transport. Usually, the repair shop will remove this oil to prevent the squealing, but sometimes this is overlooked. If you continue to notice squealing after driving for a bit, take the vehicle back to the mechanic. This oil residue can embed itself on your rotors and create a permanent glaze, which can ruin your European brakes. If this happens, you may be able to make a case for some free auto repair because the shop screwed up.
Always Use New Brake Pads with New Rotors
Another rule of thumb is to never use new VW rotors with old brake pads. If you change the rotors, always change the brake pads. It is critical that the surface of the new rotor come into contact with a new pad free of imperfections.European Auto Specialists are Cincinnati VW mechanics that understand the care Volkswagens require.
